The only thing that damaged their computers, was reading the minimum spec's, and thinking that meant with all settings on high.
What Minimum Spec really means is: With no less than this, and even with this, you're likely to experience slow frame rates, and for certain, that's with all settings on low, and with certain settings disabled, like Depth Buffer.
Screen_Space_Ambient_Occlusion is dependent on depth buffer, so turning it off, should also disable SSAO, correct? That means you'll reduce the load on your GPU significantly, for the loss of something you'll hardly notice, and wasn't existing in EVE before Incarna anyway.
Look's terrible, at max? What were you expecting; the movie Avatar? Even they had funny looking faces and speech animations on the Digitally generated people. Check out Jeff Bridges as what's his name and younger self in Tron, for a sample of latest capabilities with Millions spent on CGI. Much easier to make a Transformer look real than a person.
They did pretty damn good I'd say.
Completely blew past the limitations of Python with Carbon IO and especially Bluenet too. A year and a half to essentially recode the entire mechanism that controls flow in Stackless IO, and create something that completely blows away the barriers to throughput, while enhancing cross server communication in a Cluster. The potential implications for Distributed Computing are stunning.
MT isn't a big deal. Don't buy if you don't want to. It's not their to make you spend your money; it's an option. That's why they call it vanity.
Completely new turret models and animations. That's super cool, and I love that we now have more than 2 models for each faction of turrets; where before the only time they change was for Single and Dual, with Tech I and Tech II options, or Capital glass Turrets on Dreads.
Minimum bugs, and it looks fine. Get an update or use lower settings.
Recommended settings and what they really mean, for an fyi: Systems that meet recommended settings will most likely run all aspects of this game on medium to high settings with good frame rates.
Neither Min. Specification, or Recommended Specification includes the use of multiple clients, or running in Windowed mode on top of your operating system, and neither is it inclusive of using High Resolution, or running without Vsync in immediate mode.
Those are just some basics, that any PC gamer should aware of, when they get their first PC game. It's common sense to most of us.
Sorry you all are having troubles, but CCP gave plenty of advanced warning, including regarding the use of multiple clients and windowed mode.
They also gathered hardware, (in this thread), from players that was used to determine minimum spec, despite it being used, abused, sitting in boxes and collecting dust for months, and never being regarding as being worth the effort to avoid Electro Static Discharge when handling. All such components were tested, assembled, and used to determine Minimum spec for Incarna by CCP, and served their limited purpose to satisfaction apparently.
Seems to me they put some effort in to avoid this. The rest is up to you.
Myself and others have also tried to help you with issues and functionality when using old PC's with Incarna, to little effect. Except for 2 responses, everyone else has pretty much ignored our efforts and thrown the dodgeball at CCP.
